Weaving Beyond Textiles
As most of you might know, this week's illustration was inspired by the gorgeous basketweave hair style that strutted down the runway of Alexander Mcqueen Spring/Summer 2011. This particular styling caused such an uproar because it enhanced the already-impressive collection, and it actually made sense in spite of looking like wicker baskets on heads.
In the past few years, weaving has settled itself in a snug spot in the fashion scene. The most sought-after would be in a form of a Bottega Veneta, to braided leather bracelets for the boho-chic. Since fashion is all about innovation, so why not the hair?
While we admire how models are more than capable of giving that steel-cold blank stare, we have decided to give this basketweave do a fresh breath of personality... with a dash of kawaii.
In an interview with style.com, Guido Palau (the extremely innovative hairstylist) said that 60 bottles of hair spray were used to hold everything in place! Now we wonder if unravelling the weaves was as tough as putting it together...
