For denimheads only
First of all, happy 2011! This post is to share the evolution of my A.P.C. New Standard. Unlike run-of-the-mill jeans which already have a washed-out effect, raw jeans come in their original plain, well, “raw” form. These jeans need to be worn repeatedly over a long period of time, age with the user as the denim breaks and forms fading and honeycombs. The result? A pair of customized jeans that flows with your silhouette beautifully and shows memorable events that happened throughout the years. Why? Because you don’t need to wash them for months or even years(that is if it doesn’t stink)!
In 2007, I got caught in the raw jeans craze and got myself a pair of New Standards from Front Row after much research on denim jeans. A.P.C. is famous for its raw jeans along with brands like Nudie, Samurai, Flathead and the like. I chose A.P.C. because I liked how stiff it felt, yet was able to fit me nicely. I wore it almost everyday for 1½ years and occasionally for another year. A.P.C. jeans run in vanity sizes and one needs to “downsize” at least 3 sizes. I wanted to get a size 26 but the SA insisted that I get the 25 if I wanted the best worn-in effects. I’m glad I listened to her. It was very tight initially and I couldn’t even buckle the last button! After two weeks of hell, this pair of stubborn jeans finally relented. It expanded a little and it felt more comfortable.
The thing about raw jeans is that you’re not supposed to wash them. Well, at least avoid washing them as they will lose the color and nice fading effects. I have read on denim forums that people actually bathe in their jeans or wash their jeans on the beach for a better effect, but well I think I’ll prefer to wear my jeans in dry areas. I also heard complaints that their jeans stunk real bad after not washing for 6 months. I’ve had my pair for more than 2 years now and it hasn’t met the washing machine. Thankfully it didn’t smell bad. I sun it occasionally to rid of bacteria. PS: These jeans actually shrink a little after washing.
So how do you get the best fading and honeycombs? Personally, I think the jeans must fit you like a glove. You will need to wear them very often(preferably everyday) and do everything in them. Walk, run and cycle in these jeans and don’t be afraid to get them dirty. Do not wash them unless the smell is unbearable.
After more than two years torturing my jeans, here it is..
I kinda like how it turned out especially the left backpocket where I always stuff my phone in and the honeycombs. I will continue thrashing this pair of good ol’ denim until I think it’s time for it to retire.
Looking to buy a pair of denim? Get a pair of raw jeans, you won’t regret it.

I can't believe you haven't washed your jeans. Even ifit helps the fading or whatever it is gross. no way that you can wear jeans in Singapore n not sweat. n the sun wont kill bacteria of sweat and funk that comes out of certain places. It looks like you've got crap all over the back of them in the photos. You realy need to wash them.
Gross.
